Open Letter to Nominet Members
By on Apr 28, 2008 in Doman Name News
Andrew Bennett writes in his blog about two fundamental ‘polls’ that are currently under way at Nominet: Special Resolutions (http://www.nominet.org.uk/digitalAssets/28496_Nominet_AGM_pack_2008.pdf) Board election (http://www.nominet.org.uk/governance/board/election/).
Apparently, that year Nominet has rather surprisingly sent out a letter to all members telling them to vote against three of the candidates: download letter here (http://www.nominet.org.uk/digitalAssets/28570_call_to_action_letter_web.pdf). As you can see, Angus Hanton (elected non-executive (http://www.nic.uk/governance/board/)) hasn’t signed the letter. Mr. bennett believes that is considering he sticks by his 2007 election statement (http://www.nominet.org.uk/digitalAssets/28898_2007_Board_elections.pdf): “I am in favour of control of the board staying with the members”.
plus on the 24th April 2008 the three candidates arised on The Register as a “trio”: see scoop here (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/04/24/nominet_elections_battle/)
The ONLY reason the trio were linked together at all by Nominet was considering they disagreed with special resolution 6 (http://www.specialresolution6.com/) even though they gave valid reasons why in their election statements (see below). Finally there has been a false rumour circulating on nom-steer (https://lists.nominet.org.uk/mailman/private/nom-steer/2008-April/011612.html) about Jim Davies, that was based on incorrect data (please see his additional statement below).
The candidates have therefore provided additional statements as requested by Nominet:
